Bar represents a modern town that is expanding every day. Although it is a port town, it is amazingly clean and has many developed green areas. Around it there are many tourist attractions.
Despite the important of Bar as a traffic hub for Montenegro, the city is anything but touristy. There are only a few attractions worth visiting in the city. The Palace of King Nikola is located on the promenade, facing the sea and was built in 1885 with a chapel and a winter garden. The palace now houses a local museum with a section devoted to the narrow gauge railway that ran from Bar to Virpazar in 1908. Renovations to the city made in the 16th century under the Venetian rule, changed the entrance to the city from a large tower to a church and a relief of St. Mark’s lion that remains well preserved to this day. The Omerbašoća Mosque (1662) still stands facing the entrance alongside the Tomb of Dervish Hassan and a dry drinking foundation with Arabic inscriptions. In the suburbs, not far from the city’s center stands an olive tree as old as Christianity itself—more than 2000 years. This olive tree symbolizes the lifeblood of Bar and both the olive tree and olive oil are symbols of Bar.
The most important tourist site in Bar is the Stari Bar, also known as Old Bar. Stari Bar, unlike the newer parts of the city, is not near the sea—it instead rests on a hill, where it was first erected by the Illyrians as a fortified city. Inside the Stari Bar, tourists will find the remains of the two main churches of the old city, St. Catherine (14th century) and St. Veneranda (15th century), along with the Church of St. Nikola, erected in 1288 and the massive aqueduct that supplied the town with fresh water.
The Romans had the right idea, building their summer villas on this lovely bay. If only the new crop of developers had a scrap of their classic good taste. Still, once you get down to the pretty beachside promenade where lush Mediterranean plants perfume the air and a 16th-century Venetian fortress guards a tiny stone harbour, the aberrations up the hill are barely visible. This is one of the best places on the coast for families: the accommodation is reasonably priced, the water is clear and kids roam the esplanade at night with impunity.
Sutomore is a tourism oriented community. It is a popular destination and a weekend resort, catering to tourists from Montenegro and the surrounding region. It is popular for its 2 km (1 mi) long sandy beach and vibrant nightlife.
The ease of access, coupled with its beach, has made Sutomore very popular budget destination. Sutomore is a good choice for your holiday’s point of rest, providing close links to multiple other Montenegrin cities and their amenities. Even Sutomore it self, being a small county – in a small country, might surprise you with it’s bilateral character: from being partly ‘urban’ with buzzy night life, and sometimes amazingly crowded; to an other, more natural face of small hidden beaches and envious (but neglected) cultural heritage.
Sutomore’s beach promenade is lined with numerous bars, cafes, fast food restaurants and nightclubs, while it is more affordable than the ‘upscale’ resort of Budva.
The organizer of the festival is Cultural Art Society “ Jedinstvo” Bar – founded in 1910. With its 102 years of existence, the Cultural Art Society’s goal is to gather around young people and offer them the opportunity to meet new people, establish new friendships and learn about different cultures and traditions, which is also the main purpose of this festival.
The idea of the festival is to develop communication and dialogue between diverse cultures, by nurturing tradition as well as modern dance styles, thus combining the traditional and the modern in a timeline that will take the spectators from history to modern times.
